Dark Theme in Office 2013 & 2016

Last week I blogged about how you can turn on Dark Theme in SSMS 2016 but that it’s unfinished and you can use it at your own risk.

As good quality 4K monitors in the 30+ inch range continue to get cheaper & cheaper I find myself wanting to have a Dark Theme in every app & program I use. Well, I apparently missed the memo but both Office 2013 & 2016 offer a dark theme for the menu items.

Just click on File > then “Account” or “Office Account” whichever you see and click the drop-down under “Office Theme:” and choose Dark Gray. This Dark Theme setting works in Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook & OneNote!

Unfortunately, I haven’t found any options for setting the writing canvas to a darker color. I would really love that option. Or maybe even a ‘reverse’ option so that the words are white text on a black background/canvas.

For more information on this option, or set it so that it only applies to one of your machines have a look at this help file: https://support.office.com/en-us/article/Change-the-Office-theme-B2098F8A-AAC8-4646-9CF0-7C91D1284DA6?ui=en-US&rs=en-US&ad=US
